Crown and Bridge

Crown and Bridge

If your tooth has a history of cavity formation and has been treated with root canal therapy or large fillings, then the indirect placement of a crown is often needed to prolong the life of the tooth. A crown, which is cemented into place, completely covers and strengthens the tooth, improving overall function and esthetics. The various types of crowns are:

•Standard porcelain (tooth-colored)

•Porcelain fused to metal

•Zirconia (tooth colored)

•All metal (most commonly gold)

If one or several teeth are missing on one side of your mouth, then a fixed partial denture (bridge) may be necessary to fill the space. Bridges, also cemented into place, can restore long-term function while providing a pleasing, esthetic appearance.
